After picking up the National Wedding show earlier this year, the autumn season kept us very busy again! The show consists of three feature stages – built on day one, with rehearsals on day two, the show then opens to the public for three days, with thousands of brides to be over-enthusiastically trying on every dress in the show!
The first feature stage is a catwalk occupying over 80 square metres of floorspace, covered in dance floor vinyl with a shiny white PVC set to match! Above it a flown box truss and roof canopy supports a lighting rig of 48 Source Four par cans and 8 moving heads; a PA; and a pair of front projected video screens.
The second stage featured ‘Make Overs’ hosted by TV’s Caryn Franklin. Technically a simpler set up, this stage was finished with 3.6m tall PVC flats and a ground supported truss for the technical facilities. These provided a challenge for our operator James, who had to simultaneously control the lighting, half-a-dozen radio mics, a live camera feed, DVD playback, music cues – and oh yes – a PowerPoint presentation.
Finally, for those more interested in cakes and flowers, the ‘Inspiration Zone’ was our third feature stage - an area where expert presentations took place three times a day. A simple set housing two 42” Plasma screens and a small vocal PA was again finished to an exhibition standard for our clients.
So after a week of doing all this in Earls Court, we took it apart, moved it 100 miles to the NEC and did it all over again!
