Style in the City, Dublin - 2008
Merrion Square Dublin, September 2008
Congo Blue in the land of Guinness
Brand Events asked us to provide all the technical aspects for Dublin’s first Style in the City; a 40 minute fashion show and a style makeover session with the illustrious Trinny and Susannah.
The three-day event was to be held in Merrion Square, a public park, kitted out with marquees for the extravaganza. Shows would run every hour with at least 1,000 people attending each session.
For such a large and prestigious event, we packed extensive amounts of kit into a 40 foot truck, boarded planes from various parts of the UK and headed off to the unknown of ‘foreign shores’.
Limited rigging facilities within the marquees meant we needed to design a ground support system to elevate the majority of the technical equipment. This consisted of differing heights of vertical truss positioned on the upstage area; creating four left and four right towers.
In between we erected 15 square metres of our low resolution videowall. In the center, an entrance was created with a projection screen above it, lit from our Sanyo 12k projector.
Further down the marquee, we erected additional projection screens as repeaters of the central screen. All the screens were used to display live video showing details of the clothing from the catwalk show and for ‘close-ups’ in the makeover sessions.
We mounted a Robe Pro-spot on top of each vertical truss and blocks of our LED Bricks and Pixel Tracks were positioned vertically, plus our LED Ultra bright Pars were used as uplighters.
The catwalk stretched 16 metres from a large upstage area suitable for ‘What not to wear sessions.’ The rigging constraints of the marquee only allowed us to hang three trusses to be used for catwalk lighting and speaker rigging. The two outer trusses were rigged with 48 of our Source 4 pars for white lighting and a further 12 Coemar Prowash’s for effect and colour washing.
The central truss was used for flying the P.A. Eight of our GAE boxes were hung down the length of the catwalk with a further cluster of our HK CT112’s at the end.
All trucking, crewing, production management as well as logistics and accommodation were organised by the Congo Blue team.
