Lingerie & Swimwear Exhibition Autumn 2009
Harrogate International Conference Centre, August 2009
Congo Blue Design returned to Harrogate in August to provide yet another feature stage design for this twice-a-year event.
Having built up a considerable relationship with the event's organisers, Congo Blue's Ben Teale enjoys the design freedom his is entrusted with.
"I always love a free hand to design what I want for a show and I have been toying with the idea of horizontal movement in a set for quite some time - Harrogate's International Centre lent itself perfectly."
Congo Blue flew a 12m x 6m grid with a taught white gauze ceiling. This was the support for a range of equipment including a distributed PA system, a pair of giant City Colours to wash the whole set in one go and other lighting equipiment including 150mW Green Laser.
The main set element consisted of four blocks/pillars that each ran across the stage on a tracking system. This was driven by a wire winch motor and a complex system of pulleys and counterweights enabling the look of the set to constantly vary.
The four blocks created the opportunity for up to five separate entrances to the stage and a total of seven different stage configurations. This gave the choreographer plenty of options to play with!
Have a look at the videos clips section of the website to see a clip of the sliding doors in action.
"I am delighted to report that the client 'had Goosebumps' when she saw it for the first time!
