Pure London
Trade Buyers Exhibition, Olympia, August 2009
We're always pleased when Congo Blue Design finds a new client, so were delighted when Pure London asked us to build their Spirit Catwalk.
Although the site of the location was small, with the Congo Blue magic touch a 10m catwalk was fitted into a 9m space!
This was important because the choreography required for the ‘Spirit’ range called for a walk as long as possible, to best show off the product.
The way the laws of physics were cheated was simple in principle - but more complex in practice. Charlotte (our client) arranged to block the isle at the rear of the catwalk during the show times. This enabled the upstage T of the catwalk to be built as a motorised wheeled bridge!
Between shows the ‘bridge’ spanned the catwalk thrust in a parked position, then, just before the show began at the press of a button, it drove backwards into the isle, to physically extend the catwalk by another 2m!
The ambient light at Olympia can be very high, so we designed a lighting system to be discrete and built within the catwalk. This saved the cost of flying a lighting grid in the air or having unsightly tripods situated around the space.
A compact sound system of 4 tops and 2 subs was more than adequate, drawing comment on its punch from several visitors. As a last minute addition, we needed to feed the sound from a nearby stand into our audio system. To avoid running cables across the exhibition hall we used one of our radio transmission systems to send the feed.
